Sonia Prina quickly established herself as one of the leading contraltos of her generation. After graduating in singing and trumpet from Milan's Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, she was selected to participate in the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
She made her debut at only 23 at Teatro alla Scala conducted by M Chailly in the role of Rosina in Rossini's Barbiere di Siviglia, and thanks to her unique voice Sonia has received several international awards and won numerous prizes, including the Abbiati Prize and the Tiberini d'oro Prize, both as Best Singer of the Year (2006 and 2014). She has sung in the world's most prestigious theaters conducted by great conductors.
She was Ascanio in Mozart's Ascanio in Alba in Salzburg conducted by Fisher, Ezio in Gluck's Ezio and Orlando in Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso at the Oper Frankfurt ; Clarice in Rossini's La pietra di Paragone at the Regio in Parma and at the Chatelet Theater in Paris. At the TCE in Paris she sang Orlando in Handel's Orlando conducted by Haim and sang several operas in concert form conducted by Dantone, Antonini, Alessandrini, Curtis, Bicket to name a few. He has sung with the Berliner Philarmoniker, at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia with M Pappano, Carnegie Hall, Musikverein in Vienna, Barbican and Wigmore hall in London, Opernhaus in Zurich. Overseas she has graced the opera stages of San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Boston, Sidney Tokyo and Yokohama. In Europe she has been featured in historic theaters, among them Munich, Dresden, Madrid, Barcelona ,Copenhagen and in Italy the San Carlo in Naples, Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro La Fenice in Venice Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna. Intense is also his recording career , collaborating for several major labels
