Andrea Da Cortà

Multi-instrumentalist scholar and researcher of traditional folk music, composer and maker of ancient instruments.
He has devoted himself for many years to the recovery and revival of themes and melodies from the vast and varied European tradition.

He has to his credit a substantial record production as a soloist and as a member of the group Al Tei, of which he is one of the founders. With the Compagnia del bel Bambin, after several years of research work, he has produced five record publications on the European Christmas music tradition and an intense concert activity related to it, in Italy and abroad. He has collaborated and currently collaborates with many musical and theatrical entities. He carries out an intense concert activity as a soloist and in various other formations including, Na Fuoia, trio Moleschine, Popular Orchestra of the Dolomites, Calicanto, Silvereel. For more than a decade, he has held workshops and lessons for children in many schools in the Veneto region. Holder of the Folk music chair at the Miari School of Music in Belluno. He has made music for videos, documentaries and commercials broadcast on national networks.

He was the 2008 winner of the first prize in the Belluno Ladino song contest Ladincantando. In 1999, Radio Tre Rai dedicated a week of programming to him on the morning program Lucifero, as an emerging author. In 2006 and 2007 he was a live guest on Pogelli and Zaccagnini's program La boutique fantasque on Radio Tre Rai. Author of the music for the film Are you a pilgrim ? by Italian Canadian director Gian Ceccato, Winner of the Gold Remi Award at the 47th Annual Worldfest in Houston, Texas for 2013. He held in October 2014, a mandolin internship on the Belluno mountain tradition, at the conservatory of Biurgoin in France. Often a guest on the program A marenda aired on Antenna Tre, as an expert and consultant on local traditional music.

He has played at several important official occasions, including the Pelmo d'Oro Award for two editions, the San Martino Award and for the passing of the title of Alpine Town of the Year from Belluno to Marburg.

Among the most recent collaborations is one with Feltre restorer and literary author Federico Velluti, whose songs he rearranged, composed and published several years ago on two CDs attached to the volumes Tetracupo and Il segreto cammino di Sassouragano.

He has also collaborated with Venetian musician Max lannantuono, where he appears as a guest with musicians such as: Patty Pravo, Danilo Sacco (Nomadi), Aldo Tagliapietra (Le Orme), James Burton (legendary guitarist of Elvis Presley), Emanuele Brignola (Alex Britti Band), Mario Fasciano (Rick Wakeman, Steve Morse, Ian Paice, Steve Hackett etc.), Mario Schilirò (Zucchero), Dougie Meakin and Dave Sumner (The Motowns, The Primitives), Antonio Maiello, Salvatore Esposito (Renzo Arbore's Italian Orchestra), Alessandro Patti, Walter Apa, Stefano Zabeo, Massimo Fantinelli, Gilberto Giusto, Margherita Orlandi.

In 2016 he received the "Book of Honor" award from the Magnificent Community of Cadore for his work on local tradition. He also receives the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow award for his work from the Lions Club.

With the duo Na Fuoia, he was third runner-up at suonare@folkest 2016 during the international Folkest festival. He played at the Belluno Municipal Theater in autumn 2018 with Irish musician Liam O'Maonlai.

He is artistic director of the SANI folk festival held in Pieve di Cadore.

In February 2020 with the duo Na Fuoia he participates in the prestigious folk festival Tradicionarius in Barcelona, Spain. In 2022 he began the duo project with Roberto Tombesi of Calicanto with whom he participated in the Meðunarodni festival Meha, an international bagpipe festival on the island of Cresin Croatia representing the Venetian tradition, for the 2022 and 2024 editions.
