Composer and violist, Andrea Mattevi has received performances from the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Basel Sinfonietta, Krakow Sinfonietta, Haydn Orchestra of Trento and Bolzano, Peter Rundel, Jasuo Shinosawa, Maria Grazia Bellocchio, Alda Caiello, Ben Omar, Mivos quartet, MDI ensemble, Alter Ego Ensemble, L'arsenale, Soundscape ADM ensemble, Dèdalo Ensemble, Appassionato Ensemble, Impronta Ensemble, Windkraft Ensemble and many others, and has received commissions from the Haydn Orchestra of Trento and Bolzano, ETHE (San Sebastian), the Rovereto Philharmonic, Oratorio del Gonfalone, Orchestra JFutura and others. With the viola, he carries out an articulate artistic activity in the field of musical interpretation, as a soloist, in chamber ensembles (co-founder of the MotoContrario ensemble), with many world premieres and in the orchestral context collaborating with important groups such as the Orchestra Nazionale della Rai of Turin, the Haydn Orchestra of Trento and Bolzano and the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari.
As a composer, in addition to achieving 2nd prize at the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2022 (Tokyo) and the final of the Basel Composition Competition 2021 (Basel), he was a 1st prize winner at the International Composition Competitions "Evangelisti" (Rome), Royal Krakow Sinfonietta (Krakow), ETHE Txistu (San Sebastian), New Music Generation (Astana), "White Noise" (Foggia), "City of Udine" and others and has been awarded and recognized in several international competitions such as Concours de composition Ensemble Écoute (Paris), "V. Bucchi" (Rome), Concours Incontri Internazionali "Donatoni" (Milan), Szimanowski (Katowice), "Impronta" (Mannheim-Budapest), "Appassionato ensemble" (Como), "AN Artistry" (Athens), "Togni" (Brescia) and Styrian Tone Art Composition Competition (Graz) and many others. His original works are published by Suvini Zerboni (Milan), BabelScore (Paris), TEM (Udine), Sconfinarte (Milan).
He graduated from the courses of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Ivan Fedele and furthered his studies with Azio Corghi and Mauro Bonifacio at the Accademia Chigiana (Siena) and Fondazione "Romanini" (Brescia). He has, in addition, taken courses with Salvatore Sciarrino, Lei Liang, Alessandro Solbiati, and Stefano Gervasoni at VIPA (Valencia) and CODARTS (Rotterdam).
As a violist, in addition to having played in the symphonic seasons of the Orchestra Nazionale della RAI (Turin), Biennale musica di Venezia, Symphonic Season of the Teatro "Petruzzelli" (Bari), Season of the Teatro Olimpico (Rome) and many others, he has played in various festivals specializing in contemporary music, as soloist and in chamber ensembles such as Espacios Sonoros (Sevilla), Sound Spaces (Malmö), CIM (Udine), Festival Il Suono (Città di Castello), Incó_ntemporanea (Piacenza), Festival Cluster (Lucca), Teatro Comunale di Bolzano, Como Contemporary Festival (Como) and many others.
He improved in viola with Simonide Braconi, Luca Ranieri, Davide Zaltron and took courses with Dimitrios Polisoidis IMPULS (Graz), Pavel Berman, Ilya Grubert, Massimo Quarta, Enzo Porta, Aldo Campagnari and Francesco Dillon (Quartetto Prometeo).
Formerly a professor of harmony theory and analysis at the conservatories of Brescia-Darfo and Cagliari, theory, analysis and composition at the Liceo Musicale and violin at the SMIMs, he is the winner of the Competition for seat of the Chair of Composition, at the Conservatory of Castelfranco.
