Philip Faes

Hailed by German critics as one of the most profound and creative

performers of his generation "We felt Schubert coming so close it took our breath away," wrote the Westfälische Rundschau, after his victory in the 1989 Dortmund Schubert Piano Competition, Philip Faes was invited for seven consecutive years as a soloist with orchestra to the Philharmonie in Cologne and the Musikhalle in Hamburg, each time recording sold-out performances. Similar receptions have been made for his debuts at the Berlin Philharmonic's chamber season, Munich's Gasteig, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Düsseldorf's Tonhalle, the BBC's "International recitals" in London (broadcast live worldwide) at Jerusalem's Mishkenot Center...

Since then he has played on five continents, solo or together with the most quoted soloists and orchestras, and has to his credit a vast production discography. As a conductor, alongside the classical repertoire he is passionately devoted to the dissemination of contemporary music, and has premiered several works by today's Italian composers including Azio Corghi's "Fero dolore," with the Swingle Singers and Chiara Muti narrator.

Leipzig-based record company Genuin released in 2013 the first CD of an innovative project dedicated to Schubert, "Between Heaven and Earth," in which musical recordings are accompanied by a listening guide, or audiobooklet, written and recorded in five languages by Filippo Faes. Also recently released by Decca is the first CD (entitled "Nostalghija") celebrating his many years of collaboration with Russian violist Anna Serova.

He gives master classes in many Austrian and German Hochschule (Linz, Weimar, Trossingen, Rostock etc. at the Villa Musica foundation in Mainz, North Texas University, Nafa Academy and YST Conservatory in Singapore, in Russia and in various institutions in Southeast Asia and South America.

Followed closely by his Concert Conversations (such as those of the "Scintille" project that began in spring 2013 in the auditorium at the Veneto Banca Management Center in Montebelluna) in which, with a surprising approach to music, with his ability to tell its story, translate its language and make it comprehensible, Filippo Faes embarks with his audience on a journey through it to discover its 'topicality, vitality and formidable ability to speak to contemporary man.
