Composizione Musica applicata

Gianluca Baldi

Gian-Luca Baldi, composer, writer and teacher, is the author of more than a hundred compositions for various ensembles and destinations (chamber, for orchestra, for film, dance and musical theater). He was a student of Ivan Vandor, with whom he graduated in Bologna in 1991, and of Alvin Curran, with whom he received an M.A. in Composition from Mills College in San Francisco. In film, he has collaborated with his father Gian Vittorio on several occasions, most notably for the film Nevrijeme. He has worked extensively with dance, collaborating with prestigious dancers and choreographers such as California's Teri Weikel, and in theater for fairy-tale worlds, with eight works to his credit.

He began in the early 2000s to devote himself professionally to writing as well, both through his efforts as an essayist and theorist with books such as Grammar of Fantastic Harmony - Notes and Interludes., dedicated to Gianni Rodari, and through fiction: in 2016, for example, he won the Bukowski Prize in the best novel category with What we don't want to talk about ..

Although he has always been a rather isolated figure in the Italian compositional scene, he has managed to find his own space away from the big schools, especially in recent years, thanks mainly to the esteem of performers and orchestras.
