Walter Vestidello studied in Venice under Adriano VENDRAMELLI and immediately entered the concert realities performing intensively in Italy and abroad. He took courses with the AMADEUS Quartet and for years performed with a quartet formed by first parts of the Orchestra of the "La Fenice" Theater in Venice in important international music festivals.
He filled, at a very young age, the position of 'First Cello' in the 'Orchestra Filarmonia Veneta' of Treviso and, as soon as he graduated, he won an audition for 'Second Cello' in the Orchestra of the Teatro 'La Fenice' in Venice. In 1983 he founded, together with Giorgio Fava, Andrea Marcon and Giancarlo Rado, the 'Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca,' an ensemble that interprets music from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries following the rules of original practice with the help of instruments mounted with ancient criteria. With this group, in an activity that exceeds forty years, he has appeared in important musical events throughout Europe and in some cities in South America. There have also been numerous collaborations with singers such as mezzo-soprano Cecilia BARTOLI with whom he has performed in major European theaters. He was the cellist of the 'Paganini Consort' with Franco MEZZENA violin, Marcello DEFANT viola, Massimo SCATTOLIN guitar, taking the place of cellists Arturo BONUCCI and Julius BERGER. Since 2007 he has collaborated steadily with the 'Orchestra Mozart', founded and conducted by Claudio ABBADO, in which he was called upon to fill the position of 'First Cello' and to take part in chamber concerts of the orchestra's soloists, proposals made to him by Maestro Abbado himself; with this orchestra he has recorded for the Archiv. In the Orchestra of Teatro La Fenice he is frequently called as 'First Cello' just as he was in the Philharmonic of the same Orchestra. He collaborates regularly as 'First Cello' with the Human Rights Orchestra conducted by Alessio Allegrini. Many baroque cello courses: for Asolo Musica, the Conservatory of Vicenza, the 'G. Cini' in Venice, in Valdagno and Recoaro at the "European Courses in Ancient Performance Practice," Conservatorio 'J. Tomadini' in Udine and Conservatorio 'A. Steffani' in Castelfranco Veneto. For almost ten years he coordinated the early music activity at the Conservatorio 'A. Steffani' in Castelfranco Veneto, forming instrumental ensembles with students who now distinguish themselves in important European ensembles. Since 2017 he has been teaching baroque cello at the ILMA Summer Courses in S. Vito al Tagliamento. He has served several times on judging commissions for competitions and auditions: Treviso (Teatro Comunale), Verona (Arena Orchestra; "Premio F.S. Geminiani"), Vittorio Veneto ("Rassegna per violoncellisti e violisti studenti"), always together with internationally renowned musicians (Marcello Abbado, Rocco Filippini, Danilo Rossi, Franco Petracchi, Marco Rogliano, Antonello Farulli). He has been in charge of the preparation of the row of cellos of the "OGI' ('Orchestra Giovanile Italiana') at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole for several years, here also as an expert selector.
He is a frequent and prolific transcriber and arranger of classical and modern works for various ensembles translated for Cello ensemble, also with Voice, of varying numbers of elements; for String Quartet, Quintet with Piano and other chamber ensembles. He has collaborated extensively with the Italian Swiss RADIO, recorded for RAI3, Austrian RADIO, WDR (Germany) and DEUTCHLAND RUNDFUNK in Cologne. He is frequently called upon in the group "I Barocchisti" of Lugano, directed by Diego FASOLIS. Numerous recordings have been made. For Divox Antiqua (Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca), also with the frequent participation of violinist Giuliano CARMIGNOLA, awarded by international critics. Other frequent collaborations and award-winning recordings with Dorothee OBERLINGER, recorder (Deutsche Harmonia Mundi), Sergio AZZOLINI, ancient bassoon (Opus 111-WDR), Sol GABETTA, cello (RCA), Alan CURTIS (Virgin). With the Sonatori he has recorded frequently for Erato in Paris while for Warner Classics he recorded A. Vivaldi's "Early concertos for Violoncello obligato" as cello soloist. He holds a Chair of Cello at the Conservatorio "A. Steffani" in Castelfranco Veneto, which he has held for over forty years and is also the head of teaching activities regarding baroque and classical cello.
